Harry Potter Mania – The Finale

Millions of people can probably be divided into two camps right now, those that are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and those that have ignored the franchise altogether.

One of the most common dismissals I’ve heard is that “Harry Potter is for kids”. While it may have been intended for children, the issues in the book touch on many ‘adult’ issues. Prejudice, class struggle, corruption, – even the struggle of good against evil. The premise of the book is ages old, a few friends united against overwhelming forces of evil.

So are you waiting eagerly for the last book? I plan on reading the first chapter of the final installment shortly after midnight tomorrow.

Any guesses as to what two major characters meet their demise?

For a series that’s “just for kids”, it has a huge following. Not only are many of the fans adults, some of them go out of their way to write, publish, and sell books about Harry Potter:

    * Harry Potter and Philosophy: If Aristotle Ran Hogwarts
    * The Sorcerer’s Companion: A Guide to the Magical World of Harry Potter
    * What Will Happen in Harry Potter 7: Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Falls in Love and How Will the Adventure Finally End
    * Looking for God in Harry Potter

Wish I’d thought of some this stuff first. :)

Agreed. Volumes are being written about the series. And some of the stuff in the books is clearly intended for adults. Not sure how many 9 year-olds know why Sirius is called Sirius or consider the Latin roots of Veritaserum.

  3. I agree with you! its a great book, but too bad it ends…I feel so empty putting it down after so many years waiting for it…
